Former Nepal cricket team captain Sandeep Lamichhane acquitted of rape charges. That was after the High Court overturned his eight-year prison sentence on his appeal.
A few months ago, Sandeep Lamichhane, a player who played for the Delhi Capitals team in the Indian Premier League, was sentenced to eight years in prison.
That is with a decision given by the District Court of Nepal. In 2022, he was arrested after police issued a warrant for his arrest after the woman filed a complaint against him for raping an 18-year-old woman. After the trial that followed, he was sentenced to eight years in prison.
Sandeep Lamichhane’s lawyers have reportedly filed an appeal in the Supreme Court after the district court’s verdict, after which the Supreme Court acquitted him of the sentence.
Sandeep Lamichhane is likely to be included in Nepal’s squad for the 2024 ICC Cricket World Cup, reports Nepal Media. Nepal named their squad this month and as per ICC they can change their squad till 25th of this month.
