Board of Control for Cricket in India is currently looking for a Head Coach for the Indian National Cricket Team. Sources say that Stephen Fleming, the head coach of the Chennai Super Kings team, and Tom Moody, a former coach of the Sunrisers Hyderabad team and also the head coach of the Sri Lankan national cricket team, have been referred for the position of the head coach of the Indian cricket team.
The BCCI started inviting applications for the post of head coach through an advertisement on May 13 and has named May 27, a day after the final of the 2024 ipl tournament, as the deadline for receiving applications.
According to Board of Control for Cricket in India Secretary Jay Shah, current head coach Rahul Dravid can also apply for the post of head coach again.
But the Board of Control for Cricket in India prefers to hire a foreign coach for the post. Accordingly, Rahul Dravid, who will be the head coach from the year 2021, is likely to retire after the World Cup held in the United States of America and the West Indies.
Stephen Fleming took over as the head coach of Chennai Super Kings in 2009 and after that under MS Dhoni’s leadership and Stephen Fleming’s guidance, CSK won the IPL title several times.
Stephen Fleming is the one who led the New Zealand national cricket team and Tom Moody is the head coach who led the SRH team to become the winning team in the IPL tournament in 2016 and also coached the Sri Lankan national team for several years.
The BCCI has fixed a tenure of three and a half years for the new coach of the cricket team. This period starts on 07/01/2024 and ends in December 2027.
Under this new coach, the Indian team will play the Champions Trophy in 2025 and the ODI World Cup in 2027 as well as the World Test Championship.
